US researchers have found that drinking four cups of coffee daily may reduce the risk of oral cancer.
The researchers analyzed the outcome of nine previous studies that were collected by the International Head and Neck Cancer Epidemiology consortium.

“Since coffee is so widely used and there is a relatively high incidence and low survival rate of these forms of cancers, our results have important public health implications that need to be further addressed,” said lead researcher Mia Hashibe, an assistant professor in the department of family and preventive medicine at the University of Utah.

She added that the new results were so unique because of a very large sample size. Previous studies have found that coffee may protect against prostate cancer, gastric cancer and even depression.

The details of the current study appear in the current issue of the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.
