After a heated two-week debate at the Vatican, Roman Catholic bishops approved a final document but failed to agree on opening the Church's doors to remarried divorcees and gays. Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi said participants at a special synod on the family voted in favour of a "re-balanced" final report that took into account the concerns of the most conservative members.
