Michael Stone, the killer of Lin and Megan Russell has petitioned the High Court to deny an application to make his mental health report public since it would be misused by the press.

The 45-year-old Stone is is serving life for the two murders committed a decade ago. Stone's lawyer, Richard Clayton QC said that the parts of the mental health report if made public would be seriously misused by the tabloid press.

Mr Clayton told Mr Justice Davis that while there were lessons from the incident, it would be wrong to publish the full report. "The claimant objects to disclosure of highly personal medical information by publication to the world at large, not least because of the treatment it will receive by the tabloid press," he said.

Kent & Medway Strategic Health Authority, Kent County Council and Kent Probation Board want the report to be publicized. Philip Havers QC, for the defendants said that there was no evidence to prove that the report would harm Stone in any way.

Before the murders on 9 July 1996, Stone was apparently being treated for mental health problems and drug addiction. The hearing will continue for three days.
