To create awareness amongst the public, The Pune wing of the Indian Medical Association has enabled complete details of health related issues which may crop up during the monsoon.
According to the President of the city unit of the IMA, Dr.Avinash Bhondwe, viral infections may be on the rise during rains, as cold and wet weather conditions make it conducive for the viruses to thrive.Cough, cold, fever, headache and diarrhea are common during this period, so it is imperative to avoid getting wet in the rain and keep the body warm. It is also better to avoid eating food and consuming water from outside, due to the rise of epidemics like cholera, and gastroenteritis, on the rise due to muddy and contaminated water.
Incessant rains during monsoons may also give rise to fungal infections, especially if wet undergarments are worn. Patients who are prone to joint pains and arthritic pains must also take adequate precautions, as monsoon exacerbates these conditions.
Asthmatics also need to be careful as rainy weather worsens the condition. This climate increases the chances of vehicular accidents. While it is good to enjoy the showers, it is a must to take extra care during this time to avoid being under weather
