GN Chetty Vivekananda school in Chennai has hit the headlines after it emerged that a physically challenged boy was refused admission in the school. This was after the boy called Vishal was asked to write the entrance examination.
9-year-old Vishal suffers from cerebral palsy of a mild nature, which affects his motor co-ordination and hampers his ability to walk. When his father approached the school for admission, they sent him away saying there was no vacancy."He is a premature baby and everything was explained to the school. I told them the same thing that the doctor told me. Then they denied. It is not possible, no it is not possible. You just get out," Annandurai, Vishal's father told Times Now channel.
Ponnurangam, the principal of the school insists there is no vacancy, "We don't want to give any explanation from our side. Why should we give explanation from our side?"
However Vishal's parents feel his disability is being held against him and have decided to approach the courts. In government schools, 3% of seats are reserved for disables students.
