Thousands of school students and volunteers of non-governmental organisations Friday took out an impressive anti-AIDS rally here and vowed to fight against the deadly disease.
Carrying banners of 'Stop AIDS Keep the Promise', participants also vowed to promote safe sex across the state during the rally organised by the health department.The government announced launch of an AIDS awareness drive in the state's vast thick forested and under-developed tribal areas where there had been a massive surge in the number of patients during the past two years. The state's AIDS Control Committee says Chhattisgarh has 317 confirmed AIDS patients with industrial city Bhilai having the maximum of 92 patients. The number of HIV positive cases stood at 1,161 in June.
