Sexually Transmitted Disease Among FIFO Workers is on the Rise
There has been an alarming increase in sexually transmitted diseases in Western Australia in the last three years caused mainly by the FIFO (fly-in and fly-out) workers and the lure of inexpensive vacation in South-East Asia.
This obviously means that the workers are indulging in unprotected sex which also raises concern about the next bigger challenge- AIDS.

Young and single male FIFO workers in the mining as well as oil and gas industries are paid very well. Since they work under tough conditions they jump at opportunities which give them a break from stress and monotony, like going on inexpensive holidays in Asia.

Unprotected sex and the obvious outcome of sexually transmitted diseases is a cause of concern in Western Australia and the fear among experts is the spread of resistant strains of HIV, Chlamydia and gonorrhea.
