Shoveling snow for clearing the driveway can also increase the risk of heart attack, according to researchers at the Queen's University.
The research team reviewed records of 500 patients at the Kingston General Hospital from the past two winter seasons. 7% of the patients reported experiencing heart attack symptoms while shoveling. This danger is 4-times greater for men than women and also 4-times
greater for those with a family history of heart trouble.
The combination of irregular, strenuous activity, the cold weather, and other underlying health problems could be blamed for the heart attack.
The findings are published in Clinical Research in Cardiology.
