Mumbai: The Doctors’ strike seems to be only intensifying, even after eight days. Now resident doctors from hospitals have embarked on a public signature campaign at several railway stations in the city.

Resident doctors in lab coats, representing their alma mater, were seen filling up railway stations to appeal to the public. Doctors from JJ hospital, KEM hospital, thronged the stations early morning to catch hold of Mumbaikars on their way to work.

The Doctor who stood out was Dr Abhay Munde of JJ hospital who waited at the entrance of CST station with a register, calling out to the public, “now, we’re gathering support from public. If the government thinks that we don’t have any backing from Mumbaikars, then we need to prove them wrong. There are many issues that we need to be sorted out by the government.”

Another resident doctor Dr Abhijeet Gandhi said, “This is a one-day signature campaign and by the end of the day, we will show the government the kind of support we have from Mumbaikars.” Some resident doctors were also distributing pamphlets that listed their demands.

Meanwhile, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) appeared geared up to handle the problems faced by patients at OPDs in several of the city’s hospitals. BMC has utilized the services of d doctors from other medical units, which includes private hospitals and especially Navy hospitals, in the event of an indefinite strike.
