Florida Researchers have come out with a skin patch to treat Alzheimer’s. This research was carried on mice and the results were promising. According to these researchers, the skin patch is simpler than the conventional injected vaccine.
Alzheimer’s is said to occur when a protein called beta amyloid forms many clusters in the brain. The vaccine introduced through the skin attacks beta amyloid and breaks it. The current research was conducted on mice with a similar condition like Alzheimer’s. The said vaccine did not have any harmful effect.According to Jun Tan who was the chief of this research, this study is the first of its kind. He is planning to explore if this vaccine would have a benefiting effect in controlling memory loss in patients suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Clive Ballard of Alzheimer’s Society said that though this finding is very promising, the safety and efficacy of the vaccine should be explored further.
