Parents who seek counseling regarding sleep strategies and screen their children for sleeping habits can help their kids settle best at school
Parents who seek counseling regarding sleep strategies and screen their children for sleeping habits can help their kids settle best at school through good night time routines, according to a new study conducted by a group of Australian researchers. Researchers led by Jon Quach, from the University of Melbourne, surveyed families of over 1,500 children from 22 different elementary schools in Melbourne and found that around 161 children suffered from moderate or severe sleeping problem.
The researchers enrolled around 108 children in the study and around half of the families had private consultations at school followed by telephone calls two weeks later. Six months later the children were given learning assessment.
At the end of one year, the researchers found that the children whose parents were given sleeping consultations took less time to go to sleep compared to children from the other group. Speaking to Retuers Health, Quach said, “Sleep problems are common in young school children and are treatable using a brief behaviour-based intervention. Parents should seek advice for their child's sleep if they are concerned.”
