Omer Jama, who was a television editor at Sky Sports died after slashing his wrists. Mr Jama was taking the anti-smoking pill Champix to quit smoking and it is reported that he may have gotten depressed and taken to extreme action.
The 39-year-old Jama was found dead after having slashed his wrists and stabbed himself in the stomach and the thigh. Bolton Coroner Jennifer Leeming was informed by the toxicologist that Champix is linked to depression and suicide.Jama is thought to have tried nicotine gum and patches to quit smoking, but turned to Champix when these failed. Forensic toxicologist Julie Evans revealed that there was no over dosage involved.
The coroner returned an open verdict saying there was no evidence to prove Mr Jama was not under control when he committed suicide.
