Recent research has unearthed substantial evidence to prove that smoking cigarettes in cars when on the roads can be highly injurious to the health of co passengers. If it is children in the car it can actually damage their airways says researchers from Wellington School of Medicine.
Traveling with a smoker in a car even with windows rolled down can be compared with an evening spent in a smoky bar according to the researchers. And if windows are wound up the effect would be preposterously close to being in an intensely smoky bar.Considering the gravity of danger to children the researchers have dared to propose that a ban on smoking in cars should be imposed as soon as possible by the government of New Zealand.
The study has carefully measured the particulates or separate particles released into the air when a person smokes a cigarette while seated in a car., which give an inkling of airborne pollution levels .Particulates have been proven to be hazardous to health in previous researches.
Statistics reveal that on a considerably smoky day the particulate levels can go up to 35 to 40mcgs /cubic meter. Its horrifying to note that in a car with a smoker this level can scale to mammoth levels. When windows are rolled down the levels touch 199 mcgs and if rolled up it scales up to 2926 micrograms/cubic meter.
There is enough incriminating evidence to show that particulates in second hand smoke are notorious for causing severe respiratory illnesses in children .With this evidence staring at your faces parents cannot ignore the death knell that tolls far away
