Some Brands of Ready Meals Recalled After Glass Scare

Supermarket chains are recalling some brands of frozen ready meals including 20 Asda own brand, 4 Sainsbury’s and 4 Birds Eye meals, because of fears that they may contain small pieces of glass

Supermarket chains are recalling some brands of frozen ready meals including 20 Asda own brand, 4 Sainsbury’s and 4 Birds Eye meals, because of fears that they may contain small pieces of glass. Customers are also being asked to return thousands of ready meals.

The products came from Rye Valley Foods in Carrickmacross, a part of Kerry Group. Rye Valley foods are one of the country's biggest food processors. The company said pieces of glass were found in rice supplied from abroad. The company is now pursuing the matter with the US rice supplier.

The recall follows complaints from Britain consumers, about tiny rounded pieces of glass, in the purchased meals from the same manufacturer; however, nobody seems to have sustained injuries from the glass.

Tesco Ireland alone is withdrawing 20,000 packages and the company is unable to disclose the total count of the meal packages recalled. Full refund has been announced by the spokesperson for all the brands, returned by the consumers under suspicion. Moreover, they apologized for the inconveniences caused to customers.
