The dialysis unit at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital (SRN hospital) has resumed function, bringing a great relief for patients with kidney failure . Two old dialysis machines have been repaired and additionally, four new dialysis machines have been installed.
Following inspection by the Medical Council of India (MCI), the State Government has sanctioned two new dialysis machines. The patients are being charged for Rs 500 for each dialysis. This amount is considerably less than the amount which other private hospitals charge. The dialysis machines that were supplied on a contract basis have been lying out of order for several months. The dialysis unit had been closed for the past six months owing to technical reasons. This forced many kidney failure patients to turn over to private hospitals that charged a heavy amount for the medical service.
According to official sources, senior staff of the department have been said to be uninterested in rejuvenating the dialysis unit. The closing of the unit helped save a lot of time of some doctors in the hospital for private practice. Now, however, the situation has changed and the patients can now anticipate some benefit from the reopening of the unit.
