STD’s are a Hidden Epidemic in USA
There has been significant rise of some sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s) over the last decade in the US, with 19 million new infections occurring every year. This costs the US health care system $17 billion annually.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) annual report the infection rate for STD’s among African-Americans and Hispanics, particularly in the young population, continues to be greater than that of whites.

The CDC has released a report that tracks the three STD’s- chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis. More than 1.3 million cases of chlamydia were reported last year. The number of new gonorrhea cases was over 300,000. The rate of syphilis cases has been increasing since 2001, but has dropped by about 2% in 2010.
