The Gujarat government has decided to increase the stipend by 20% for all medical students in Gujarat.
Medical students in Gujarat have enough reason to celebrate. The Gujarat government has decided to increase the stipend by 20% for all medical students in Gujarat. This move will benefit about 3300 medical students in the state including Dental and Ayurveda branch of students.
Confirming this move, the Health Minister for the state, Jai Narayan Vyas, said the raise will cost the exchequer an additional six crore, which will be effective from August 2006.Following the raise, all interns, except those in physiotherapy courses, will receive Rs 4,372 per month instead of the present Rs 3,613. Physiotherapy interns will receive Rs 3,496 as against the present Rs 2,889 per month.
Resident doctors will henceforth receive Rs 9,623, Rs 10,104, Rs 10,785, and Rs 11,082 during their first, second, third, and fourth year respectively.
For the first, second and third year, senior residents will get Rs 13,401, Rs 16,316 and Rs 18,690. The slab does not undergo any change for post-graduate students of all courses. Diploma students will soon begin to receive Rs 5,858 and Rs 6,182 during the first and the following year.
This move is thought to positively impact the morale of medical students and also help provide better facilities to them.
