A recent study shows that there may be a strong link between Skin Allergies and cancer. People who suffer from certain skin allergies may actually be more prone to blood related caners as they grow older. A Swedish team of researchers reported this finding in a study in the recent issue of the BMC public Health.
In this alarming finding it was reported that people who experience hives are actually more likely to develop Leukemia and those of us who have as children suffered form eczema are about two times more likely to develop non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (a type of cancer involving lymphatic glands of the body). The Swedish Investigators conducted the study among 16,500 twins in Sweden who were followed for more than 30 years. The result made the investigators believe that the skin allergies may also lead to cancer as they stimulate the immune system to increase the number of white blood cells, which in turn might foster cancer-causing mutations within the white blood cell population of the body.
This finding has created a lot of disagreements in the scientific community, which originally believed that allergic diseases might actually protect against cancer, as they stimulate the immune system to work harder.
It may take a little bit more time to confirm the Swedish team’s findings however, this study has certainly opened a whole new avenue for researchers battling to find the cancer cure around the world.
