A new study to be published in the journal, International Journal of Epidemiology, reveals that boredom can be one of the major causes of death.
Researchers from University College London interviewed more than 7,500 people aged between 35 to 55 years in a three year period from 1985 to 1988. Last year, the researchers followed up on the study and found that almost 40 percent of those who admitted to feeling great deal of boredom had died. The study suggests that boredom drives people to smoking and drinking and thereby vastly reducing the life expectancy. “The findings on heart disease show there was sufficient evidence to say there is a link with boredom. It is important that people who have dull jobs find outside interests to keep boredom at bay, rather than turn to drinking or smoking”, said Martin Shipley, who is the co-author of the study.
So maybe its best to stay engaged all the time.
