A majority of Americans do not use sunscreen to protect themselves from the sun despite repeated recommendations to do so.
A survey by the Consumer Reports National Research Center has found that a majority of Americans do not use sunscreen to protect themselves from the sun despite repeated recommendations to do so.
The survey of 1,000 adults found that 69% were only occasional users of sunscreen, while 31% of them used the sun lotion regularly. Skin experts say these attitudes are frustrating because Americans know exactly what is required to be done for sun protection. For example, the survey also found that most Americans were aware of the importance of choosing the sunscreen with the highest SPF factor and that they needed to abandon lotions that were past their expiry dates.
However sunscreen use seems to be irregular despite warning from the American Cancer Society that more than 1 million skin cancers are diagnosed annually in the country. The survey also found that women were more likely to use sunscreen than men.
