The results of the study, reported in the latest edition of New England Journal of Medicine, suggests that prostatectomy done in the early stages of cancer increases the rate of survival of the patients below 65 years of age by 40%. The rate of spread of cancer from the target cells to other locations, also known as metastasis, gets reduced by 44% when surgery is performed early.
