A Swiss bar owner has come up with a unique idea to beat the ban on smoking - he has made a series of holes in the wall that allow smokers to take a puff outside the bar. Smokers can stick out their heads through the larger top hole and while two other holes enable their hands to technically hold the cigarette outside the bar.

Dino Lottaz, 49, came up with the idea of the smoking wall in his restaurant Caravelle in Bosingen, in the canton of Fribourg, when local imposed a prohibition on smoking in public areas, including bars and restaurants, this month.

"I enjoy a cigarette myself so I know how smokers feel. Someone suggested cutting holes in the wall. It's a bit of a joke but it actually works quite well. It can get very cold sometimes so it's not really an option to stand outside for a smoke," the Telegraph quoted him, as saying.

He added: "My clients seem to approve. They can legally have a cigarette without leaving the establishment."
