Synthetic Chemicals May Trigger Breast Cancer

Scientists have issued a warning that mixtures of chemicals present in day to day products may be the reason for this escalation of breast cancer.

Incidences of breast cancer are twice as much within a generation and nearly 1000 British women are dying in a month due to this disease. Scientists have issued a warning that mixtures of chemicals present in day to day products may be the reason for this escalation of breast cancer.

Synthetic estrogens have caught the attention of scientists, which have very similar structures as compared to the female sex hormone estrogen. Estrogen which is an important component of the contraceptive pill and HRT, has been known to trigger breast cancer. Uncannily, the manufactured chemicals portray structures very similar to estrogen, and scientists feel strongly about these chemicals being the culprit behind the rise in breast cancer cases.

The ‘culprit’ chemical under the scanner is, bisphenol A, which is present in CD cases, lunchboxes, sunglasses, water bottles and babies' bottles, and also in the plastic lining within the tin cans and food packaging. Bisphenol A comprises of many plastics, which forms a part of more than 50% of food cans in British Supermarkets. Other chemicals in the line of fire include polychlorinated biphenyls or PCBs and pesticides such as DDT.

Experts have emphasized that even seemingly insubstantial amounts of the chemicals could actually cause a great deal of harm to the body. Despite this revelation, research has shown that one in 20 breast cancer cases are genetic. And considering factors like diet and alcohol, only 50% of breast cancer cases can actually be explained.
