According to experts at the University of Alaska, sharing some winter skincare tips would help you deal with the demands of cold, dry weather. For those of us in Europe and the US, winter can be hard on the skin and you need to take extra care. The experts say you should always use a mild, superfatted or glycerine soap and limit the time you spend in the bath or shower to no more than ten to 15 minutes.

Lukewarm water is easier on the skin than very hot, and you shouldn't rub yourself dry with a towel - pat your skin instead. When it comes to moisturiser, use a cream rather than a lotion, and try using it on damp, rather than dry, skin. If the air in your home is dry, do try using a humidifier to add moisture. If, after following these tips, your skin is still dry, cracked or painful, do see a doctor. It may be that you have dermatitis or eczema - both of which require medical attention.
