Tamil Nadu CM Announces Rs 5-lakh Aid for Comatose Woman
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has announced Rs 5-lakh monetary aid and a special medical team for a comatose woman whose husband has appealed to the CM for her mercy killing.
Seethalakshmi, 34, slipped into coma after a surgery that went wrong. She was operated upon at a government hospital in Tirunelveli to remove a thyroid nodule on March 2.

On May 1, Seethalakshmi was shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai after her husband Subramanian, a labourer, moved the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court for better treatment.

“I have ordered the administration of the Government General Hospital to provide her with advanced, intensive medical treatment. Following this, a special medical team under the leadership of Dr Tito, with experts in neurology, circulation, medicine and anaesthetics, is providing her with treatment,” said Jayalalithaa on Sunday.

Subramanian said he had sought euthanasia for his wife as he did not have money for her further treatment. He has two children and has already taken a loan of Rs 3 lakh for treatment.

Subramanian also hope that the Chief Minister’s assistance would help in his wife’s recovery.
