Technology Advances Makes Monitoring a Cancer Patient by Mobile Phones Possible.

The top Cancer Specialists have been told patients undergoing chemotherapy in remote parts of Australia can be monitored using a mobile phone.

Top Cancer Specialists in Australia have been told that patients undergoing chemotherapy in remote areas may be monitored using a mobile phone.

The system includes the patient sending a text of his symptoms according to their severity, and advice would be organized by means of a red alert sent to medical staff, or an ambulance may be arranged as well.

This wonder of new age technology may be used along with a mobile or a personal digital assistant which sends the data to the central server and reaches the patient’s oncologist through a website, after it has been analyzed.

This trial saved many lives according to Nora Kearney, lead researcher in the University of Stirling, Scotland. “Patients often don't realise that some symptoms can have severe effects and in some cases, be life threatening. For example a high temperature can be extremely serious for chemotherapy patients and may require hospitalisation” Professor Kearney added.

Additional Benefits

Apart from the alerts, the system provides advice according to the patient’s symptoms. Further it has a library, which provides information concerning cancer, treatment methods and the support groups.
