An Orange County couple were left elated after the birth of their baby boy, especially since he weighed 14 pounds and 2 ounces, a first at the county.
A newborn weighing 14 pounds and 2 ounces took everybody, including hospital staff and the two doctors (required to lift the child!) by surprise! But the Orange County couple is nevertheless, proud parents of their record-braking child!
The birth took place by C-section at Laguna Hills on December 23, and it took two doctors to lift the baby up amidst gasps."Oh my God!" OCRegister.com quoted a nurse as exclaiming.
"He's here! He's big!" someone else said.
For a moment, baby's mother Sara Sault thought that something might be wrong, and it was only after her husband Richard Sault told her the details that she relaxed.
"Fourteen pounds, 2 ounces," he whispered to her.
The baby, Richard Walker Sault, was measured at 211/2 inches long after his birth, and he had already outgrown his infant car seat and weighed as much as a medium-sized holiday turkey.

Labour and delivery nurses at UCI Medical Centre in Orange can't recall a baby ever being born there weighing more than 13 pounds.
"That's a big baby," said Marty Wright, department manager of labor and delivery at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange.
During her 21 years at the hospital, about 102,000 babies have been delivered.
"I remember one that was nearly 12 pounds, but 14.2? Never!" she added.
Richard Jr. is the size of an average six-month-old, said Dr. Ronald Naglie, a neonatologist at Saddleback Memorial.
"He's certainly the biggest newborn I've encountered," said Naglie, who's been around newborns for nearly 30 years.
