A recent study in the U.K. has revealed that regular application of make-up could be hazardous to health.
According to the study says on an average a woman applies 175 chemicals on a daily basis which comes under the category of cosmetics and toiletries. Most of those chemicals are associated with health problems like skin problems, hormonal conditions and cancer.
Professor David Gawkrodger, a consultant dermatologist and spokesman for the British Skin Foundation charity said, "Some of the chemicals in everyday toiletries may trigger irritant reactions or allergy. Reactions are particularly seen in patients with atopic eczema and those with sensitive skin."
He added, "Most reactions will be to the face or hands, and sometimes on the arms and legs."
A campaign group has now demanded that manufacturers of cosmetics should label more information regarding their product-ingredients and their side effects.
Julia Mitchell, spokeswoman for www.chemicalsafeskincare.co.uk said, "Media reports about the possible dangers of certain chemicals such as parabens, sodium laureth sulphate, phthalates and formaldehyde has made consumers more aware of what they are buying, and potentially more demanding of chemical safe alternatives."
