The “Enough Sleep” Project to study mechanism of sleep regulation

Researchers from European countries to collaborate on identifying the mechanism involved in sleep regulation to treat sleep disorders

Researchers from five European countries to collaborate on finding the mechanism involved in sleep regulation, the joint project named as The “Enough Sleep” project is to be head by Professor Tarja Porkka-Heiskanen, Institute of Biomedicine, University of Helsinki. The project is aimed at finding the mechanisms involved in sleep regulation which would be very useful in understanding the amount of sleep required for proper functioning of brain and will help in understanding sleep rhythms and wakefulness which would help in treating sleeping disorders and mental disorders. The project is funded with £ 1.4 million for 3 years by the 6th Framework Program. The “Enough sleep” project combines the results obtained from both experimental data and clinical research and the project is collaborated with SMS-company Nexstim Oy which will develop a new software for analyzing the brain cells.
