Washington - If you are obese, blame it on your gene. A new study conducted by European researchers has shown that, if genes called FTO portray mutation in both their copies, then such people stand a 70% chance of being over weight, as compared to people who possess normal copies of the gene.
Researchers do not have the complete story yet. With a faint idea of what is happening, this research could give us an answer for people being overweight, despite consuming a low calorie diet.During the study, researchers examined the deviations in the DNA of gene called FTO, which is observed in patients suffering type 2 Diabetes. Comparing the genomes of almost 2,000 diabetes patients and 3,000 healthy ones, researchers were available to spot a connection between the disease and a specific difference in the FTO gene.
The study published in the journal Science shows, by merely carrying a single copy of the FTO variant, the risk of obesity goes up by 30%. Further research in this area will give us a better idea as to why some of us stick out, despite eating in moderation.
