Lachlan Shire Council has decided to fund themselves for another doctor to Condobolin Health services.
The Lachlan Shire Council decides to pay for the services of another doctor at the Condobolin Aboriginal Health Service.
The council have decided to give the Condobolin Aboriginal Health Service $150,000 so as to pay a doctor to work as a general practitioner and be a second visiting medical officer (VMO) at the Condobolin Hospital. The previous VMO had resigned from his post in February and the Greater Western Area Health Service is considering applications for the position. The general manager of the council, Roger Bailey had stated that this decision would not have an impact on the shire budget of the other areas. The council but has turned down the demand for upgrading of the Condobolin Medical Centre.
Roger Bailey said, "Obviously, with the money coming from the medical centre fund, that could impact upon that in the future, but as I said council is going to be sharing in the Medicare payments that are going to be coming back for patients visiting the doctor and it's council's resolution to put those funds back into that reserve." Explaining that the Condobolin Aboriginal Health Service will employ the doctor, he said, "They'd do all the recruitment and all the employment of the doctor. Council is just providing the funding assistance to allow the Aboriginal Health Service to engage the doctor and for the doctor then to build up his business."
