A U.S. Census study found that the Americans who are old today are much healthier as compared to those in the past, have fewer disabilities later in life and will get healthier with the arrival of the baby boomers.
It would be like the next generation would have older people telling them all sorts of things and having access to a large range of situations and wider time frames.So there is a paradox!
Society has made some progress in accepting that some end-of-life care is simply futile. But it will take much more willingness to forgo some treatments, especially in the last 60 days of life, to make a real difference if the boomers are to, in the words of an old song, bow out gracefully.
So is it a health crisis at hand?
