Men who receive hormone therapy after treatment for prostate cancer may experience temporary problems remembering visual figures and recalling numbers as quickly as they once did , according to a new study however other key mental functions, such as verbal skills, naming, visual-motor skills, and skills requiring working memory or sustained attention, were not affected by the treatment.

Researchers attribute the declines seen in the study to the fact AD lowers levels of testosterone, which can stimulate the growth of prostate cancer, and estradiol. Researchers also found the more estradiol levels declined, the more likely men were to suffer the mental problems.

In conclusion researchers say their findings suggest doctors need to let their patients know AD may have some effects on mental ability hence they must be prepared to offer support during the treatment period.
