Too Strange to Be True-: Baby Delivery on Phone

Gone into labour at 39 weeks, Gillian Bridgewater, 30, from Birmingham UK delivered her baby while taking instructions on phone from Maria Spurr, a newly- trained emergency medical dispatcher.

A Brit mum-to-be delivered her baby while taking instructions from a newly trained emergency med on the phone.

Gillian Bridgewater, 30, from Birmingham, had gone into labour at 39 weeks.

Seeing Bridgewater’s state, her partner Kurt Hyett called up emergency. Incidentally, the phone was picked up by Maria Spurr, 24, an emergency medical dispatcher with West Midlands Ambulance Service who had completed her training only two weeks earlier.

“Maria told us to stay calm and told us what to do. I would like to say thank you to Maria. Without her, I’d have been a nervous wreck,” The Sun quoted Hyett, as saying.

Spurr, who is based at the emergency operations centre in Brierley Hill, said: “We do get occasional 999 calls for births but breach births are thankfully much rarer.

“This birth went well, despite the initial complications. Both the caller and his partner were very calm. He got her into the right positions and she gave birth to a girl in less than eight minutes,” she added.
