Health experts in Britain are concerned that eating disorders among men has increased by more than a half over the last decade.
Health experts in Britain are concerned following new figures released by the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders which reveals that eating disorders among men has increased by more than a half over the last decade. Termed as “manorexia”, figures reveal that the number of such cases has increased by more than 66 percent over the last 10 years in England alone.
More than 1.6 million people are known to suffer from anorexia with over 20 percent of them being thought to be males.
A spokeswoman with the NHS revealed that the problem was similar as with the females with men becoming obsessed with their looks. “The pressure these days on guys to have the perfect figure is very similar to that which has and continues to affect women. It's all about losing body fat and getting a six pack, and it comes from the way the male shape is portrayed”, she said.
