Researchers from the Technische Universitaet Muenchen (TUM) have come out with a prototype implantable oxygen sensor which is capable of monitoring tumor growth continuously. The oxygen concentration in the surrounding tissues is evaluated by a chip. After measurement of oxygen levels, this chip relays the data wirelessly to a receiver carried by the patient.
The receiver further transmits the data to a specialist so that the treatment plan can be worked out. This development can be a great boon to continuously track the growth of tumors.
