Committee urges Government to invest in health care projects and vaccine research to increase treatment options for bird flu
The Lords Committee as formed a new cabinet committee to plan strategies to fight the risk of bird flu pandemic. The New committee has said that though the United Kingdom Government has taken various measures to curb the risk of any pandemic bird flu spread but the committee feels still a lot has to be done to fight a pandemic disease.
The committee feels that the Government should organize the food sector as there would be high shortages of disease free food items, which requires the Government organizing the food supplies by collaborating with major food retailers and manufacturers. Though Government has stockpiled a stock of 14.6 million doses which would be only sufficient to immunize and treat only 25% of the countries population and the shortage can be reduced by investing more money in healthcare projects and vaccine research.
