Unhealthy lifestyles among the younger generation in the United States have led to increasing rates of strokes among the youth

Ischemic stroke among children aged between 5 to 14 years rose by 31 percent during the same period while it also rose by 30 percent among those between 15 to 24 years of age and 37 percent among those between 35 to 44 years of age.
The researchers said that the rising rates of obesity, hypertension and use of tobacco has led to increased rates of strokes among the younger generation. “Urgent public health initiatives are needed to reverse trends in modifiable risk factors associated with stroke in adolescents and young adults”, the researchers wrote in the report which has been published in the Annals of Neurology.
