UP To Provide Nutritional Diets To All Pregnant Women

Claiming a decrease in the child mortality rate from 86 per thousand to 72, the Uttar Pradesh government plans to bring it down further by earmarking Rs 2.63 crore for nutrition of all pregnant women and children.

The benefits reaching women and children below poverty line would now accrue to all and the government will spend Rs 2.63 crore to provide nutritional diet to all pregnant women and children of the state, Development and Nutrition minister Ram Gobind Cahudhary said here today.

He said girls below poverty line would be provided social security under the 'Balika Shree Scheme' in which Rs 2 lakh would be given to girls who were orphaned.

The government had also changed the criteria for opening 'Anganwadi Centres' and villages with a population of over 500 would have such centres.

Altogether, 31,498 new centres had been opened and 63,000 rural women were engaged in them, he said.
