Couples who want to choose their babies' sex in Britain are not allowed to do so as per government regulations. However the US relaxed its restrictions in 2001 and Brit couples are now flocking to US to get the child of their choice.
"Britain is far more conservative than it used to be. They were the innovators but now they've got handcuffs on. From a business standpoint, it's the best thing going. From a medical standpoint, it's a travesty," says Jeffrey Steinberg, who opened a gender selection clinic in New York.In the UK, tests are only allowed to screen for diseases like muscular dystrophy and haemophilia. The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority in Britain says that allowing gender selection may hurt sentiments of some people in the country and is against social norms.
