A US man has set a new record after he gobbled down 103 hamburgers in eight minutes.
The man, Joey Chestnut won the Krystal Square Off IV World Hamburger Eating Championship in Tennessee, after beating 12 other contestants. The 23-year-old, from San Jose, California, outdid the previous world record of 97 Krystals, a brand of hamburger, held by Japan’s Takeru Kobayashi, set at last year’s Krystal Square Off.
“We never thought we’d see someone anywhere near, let alone past the century mark when we started the Krystal Square Off in 2004,” The Sun quoted Brad Wahl, vice president of marketing for The Krystal Company, as saying.
“But like when Roger Bannister broke the four-minute mile barrier more than 50 years ago, Joey Chestnut has set a new benchmark today for all moving forward,” he added.
Chestnut received almost 5,000 pounds as prize money for his startling victory.
