U.S. is not yet fully prepared to fight against bird flu in case of a pandemic
Experts feel that the federal government is not yet prepared to face a pandemic threat of bird flu, even as President Bush allotted $3.8 billion // for bird flu drugs and vaccines. They feel that U.S. is getting prepared to face a pandemic of bird flu but the preparedness is not enough and still a lot has to be done in the area of bird flu drug research, quarantine and isolation strategies. Though, U.S. is not in immediate threat of any bird flu virus as there are no reported cases of loss of poultry nor humans due to bird flu infection but, the threat of mutation of bird flu virus is high and this mutation can lead to air-borne spread of the virus, which can lead to a world wide pandemic killing millions of people world wide. Still, lot has to be done like planning of quarantine and isolation of infected, allocating more funds for bird flu drug research and drug procurement, as experts feel that there will be an acute shortage of drugs and vaccines if a bird flu pandemic occurs.
