Experts in the US recommend that everyone over 65 should get a pneumococcus vaccination. As you get older, your immune system may weaken, making you more prone to infection. That's why it may be wise to take a 'flu jab. Doctors at the Mayo Clinic in the US also urge people over 65 to have a pneumococcal vaccination.

The jab protects you from pneumonia, meningitis, and various other serious infections. The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention official recommends it for anyone over 65. If you are otherwise healthy, you only need one dose. Some people with health problems may even benefit from the vaccine at a younger age.

And if you had this vaccine when you were younger than 65 and this was more than five years ago, you would be well advised to go for re-vaccination for more complete protection. The pneumococcus vaccine is available all year round.
