A new report by a consumer watchdog has revealed that vacuuming the hall helps shed more pounds than using a popular games console to try to get fit.

Health experts at Which? Computing mag tested the effectiveness of the Nintendo Wii Fit to discover that regular household could keep one healthy and fit, reports the Scotsman.

The 230-pounds hi-tech virtual gym has become extremely popular as it claims to help people get fitter without stepping out of their homes.

To evaluate the efficacy of the games console against daily work, Which? Computing tested ten minutes of household work with the same time spent on Wii.

It was seen that the subject using the Wii Fit burned 25 calories, the volunteer cleaning the bathroom burned 34 calories and the participant vacuuming burnt nearly 42 calories.

A person burned 115 calories in ten minutes over the treadmill.

Although, the mag noted that the Wii Fit Plus was supported by the Department of Health's Change4Life campaign, it added: "But if you are serious about losing weight, you may want to try other forms of exercise."
