Wyeth Pharma has been asked to pay $3 million to a husband and wife couple by a Philadelphia jury in connection with its hormone replacement drug prempro.

Jennie Nelson of Ohio had filed a case against the pharma giant accusing their drug prempro to have caused breast cancer in her. Prempro is intended as a hormone replacement therapy in menopausal women. Nelson has been taking this drug for six years. She later developed breast cancer and has undergone double mastectomy and is being treated with chemotherapy and radiation.

According to the attorney of Wyeth Pharma there is no scientific basis in linking prempro and breast cancer. The company has been consistently revealing about the contra indication of the drug to physicians and patients. Despite facing around 5000 lawsuits across the country for its hormone replacement drugs, Wyeth Pharma continues to market its drugs.
