Prebiotics Supplemented Formula Milk Reduces Dermatitis Risk

The risk of developing eczema in babies is reduced by adding prebiotics to their formula milk

The risk of developing eczema in babies is reduced by adding prebiotics to their formula milk They help to stimulate the beneficial gut bacteria and fortifies the immune system.

According to BBC reports, a study done by Milan’s Center for Infant Nutrition revealed that topic dermatitis was less likely to develop in babies given supplemented formula milk than in those given the standard form. The results, published in Archives of Disease in Childhood, suggests that atopic dermatitis may be prevented by the supplements by boosting the immune system.

According to leading scientist, Professor Guido Moro, atopic dermatitis decreased by over 50% in the infants fed with pre-biotics. "To our knowledge this is the first time it has been shown that prebiotics not only produces favorable changes in the gut flora, but could also lead to a genuine clinical benefit".

He adds, "It appears that prebiotics can strengthen the immune system and so reduce the risk of atopic dermatitis during the first months of life."

The research subjected 192 healthy children to the study who had a high risk of developing allergies.
