New York: NBA has geared up to institute mandatory heart testing that will follow a standardized screening procedure, for every person in the league. After the death of Atlanta Hawks center Jason Collier, NBA has got its act together to prevent such incidents in the future. The mandated tests will include the gamut of physical examination, blood work, an electrocardiogram, a resting echocardiogram and a stress echocardiogram.
The NBA initiative gained momentum after what transpired between New York Knicks and Eddy Curry, who declined medical tests despite suffering from irregular heart beats. Barry Maron, of the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, praising the NBA for its timely effort said "The standardized and systematic strategy that the NBA is instituting is very reasonable and important...They should be given substantial credit for this initiative."Source-Medindia
