IMA to create database on physicians

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) is embarking on an exercise to grade hospital and medical institutions in the country, according to Dr. Sanjiv

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) is embarking on an exercise to grade hospital and medical institutions in the country, according to Dr. Sanjiv Malik, Honorary Secretary-General of the IMA.

Meanwhile, IMA has also entered into an alliance with ORGMARG to create a database on all the medical practitioners in the country, be it allopathy or homeopathy, he said. The process of cataloging medical professionals commenced about four months ago.

Speaking to presspersons, Dr. Malik said the effort to grade medical institutions, was part of an effort to ensure transparency and authenticity regarding the services provided by them. However, it will be voluntary on the part of the medical institutions.

He said the grading was being done by the IMA and encouraged private institutions to voluntarily get their services and facilities inspected by the IMA.

The IMA official further pointed out that the exercise will take at least six months, as it has to first lay down the parameters for grading, appoint an agency and finally work together towards the final gradation of the hospitals.
