Children specific HIV anti-retroviral drugs with optimum drug dosage and laboratory tests with good sensitivity for detecting AIDS in children have to be developed.
Global Health Charity has asked the pharmaceutical companies to develop cheap and effective anti-retroviral drugs with optimum drug concentration for curing HIV in children’s living in African countries. The charity has also urged the scientists to develop more sensitive and affordable laboratory tests for detecting the virus antibodies in the blood of babies affected with AIDS.
There is a need to develop new laboratory tests for detecting HIV infection in children’s has most of the tests available can be only used for detecting HIV antibodies in adults as HIV antibodies of the mother circulate in the child which can lead to false positive results. The Pharmaceutical companies also have to develop specific anti-retroviral drugs for children’s as the drugs available for the adults may be of more concentration to children’s which may cause drug toxicity to children’s and the pharmaceuticals should develop anti-retroviral drugs with optimum drug concentration for treatment of HIV in children’s.
