Ticks like Sunny Weather

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) Americans suffer from Lyme and other tick-borne diseases in the month of May, June and July.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) it was noted that a number of Americans suffer from Lyme and other tick-borne diseases in the month of May, June and July.

Hence various steps are taken to prevent the disease caused due to tick bites. Statistics show that the number of cases of Lyme disease increased from 11,700 cases in 1995 to 21,304 cases in 2005. U.S. CDC reports that Lyme disease is greatly underreported. It is transmitted through the bite of a deer tick which is prevalent across the United States and in places such as Northeast and upper Midwest regions.

The illness can cause serious health problems if not treated early. Another tick-borne disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, is potentially fatal. The number of cases increased from 695 in 2001 to 1,843 in 2005. This disease is most common in the South, with the highest incidence in North Carolina and Tennessee.

CDC entomologist Marc Dolan said that young ticks are very small and difficult to spot, which is another reason why Lyme disease is such a problem. Simple precautions can help protect against tick bites such as using a repellent called DEET on exposed skin and clothing, wearing long pants, light-colored clothing can make it easier to spot ticks, to closely examine the skin and clothing after a walk in the forest or backyard.
